Get Out of Jail Free with Bankruptcy? Probably Not Feb 22, 2007 - Personal Finance Info >> Will You Have To Pay Back The Debt Anyway? - by Robert Zangrilli The most widely held misconception about bankruptcy is that it’s the debtor’s version of the “get out of jail free” card in Monopoly. While most people know that bankruptcy affects your credit for 7 to 10 years, very few people know that it’s possible that you’ll have to pay back the debt anyway, even if you file a Chapter 7 “straight” bankruptcy. The formal definition of bankruptcy is “a proceeding in federal court in which an insolvent debtor’s assets are liquidated and the debtor is relieved of further liability.” On the other hand, the commonplace definition of bankruptcy is probably “the process of completely wiping out your debts for free.” In the majority of cases, the latter definition may be appropriate, but in some scenarios, it’s likely that even with bankruptcy, you’ll still have to pay back at least a portion of the debt. So when is it likely that you’ll have to pay back your debts? Here are the most common scenarios when you’ll get all the negatives of filing bankruptcy (severe credit impact for 7 to 10 years), but none of the benefits (you’ll still have to pay back at least part of the debt): 1) You make more than the average person in your state. If this is the case, then it’s likely that you’ll be forced into a Chapter 13 bankruptcy plan. In a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the court orders that you pay all your disposable income to a court appointed trustee, who in turn disburses payments to your creditors. Keep in mind... Self Employed Loans : Carve A Niche For Yourself - by Christian Phelps Many people are attracted to the benefits of self-employment, from setting your own hours and being your own boss to having control over the development of your business and career. The control over your lifestyle and work is a good reward for the risks involved in setting out on your own. But there are definite challenges involved also. One of the most daunting aspects of self-employment is finding credit. Lenders are often wary of lending to someone who is self employed, particularly if they are new to it and cannot provide proof of steady income. However, as the character of the economy continues to change, banks and other lenders are becoming increasingly willing to lend to the self-employed... A Guide to the Bad Credit Personal Loan May 18, 2006 - from Real Estate Articles Broadcast Internet radio to FM radios in home or office. by John Mussi Here is a useful guide to the bad credit personal loan. If you find yourself in need of extra money but without the good credit needed for an unsecured loan, you may want to consider getting a bad credit secured loan. These loans require you to place some item or property in the lender's trust as collateral for the loan, and should you not repay the loan then they are free to sell the item that you granted them as collateral. Some lenders require that you turn over the collateral to them in order to get your bad credit secured loan, but many will allow you to keep the collateral. The 80% figure is the highest in more than two years. Only 4% expect an interest rate decrease. A spokesman for Lloyds thinks consumers have been bitten by recent rate increases and have also been influenced by recent talk of inflation. As many as 62% of those surveyed thought prices had risen in the last year and 79% expected them to rise again over the next twelve months. People surveyed were also generally more pessimistic about the employment situation than had been the case over the last two years. A majority of those surveyed felt their job was less secure as compared to the same time a year ago. Lloyds points out that several of these perceptions do not accurately reflect either the economic facts or the opinions of economists. Inflation generally has been quite moderate, the bank rate has been held to a still very low 5%, the housing market remains bouyant in spite of fears of a bursting bubble, and unemployment registered its biggest decline in November in almost two years. Quick closings and excellent rates on all mortgage programs. Most U.S. Baby Boomers Prefer to Retire in the South - Study - Two studies, one from the Research Institute for Housing (an affiliate of the Mortgage Bankers Association) and the other from the National Association of Realtors were recently released. Both studies looked at the real estate behavior of baby boomers as they enter their golden years. The NAR study found that forty-two percent of survey respondents would prefer to retire in the South, 32 percent in the West, 15 percent in the Midwest, and 12 percent in the Northeast. This almost guarantees that the traditional sunbelt real estate markets will remain very active. Much of the RIF study's conclusions dealt with second homes. About 15% of 50+ homeowners also owned a second home. Only 17% had a mortgage on their second home. Almost two-thirds of these spend less than 4 weeks a year in their second home. Follow this link for a more extensive article about these studies see Types of Mortgage Refinancing Feb 27, 2007 - Linknet Finance News >> All About Mortgage Refinancing - by Kausik Dutta Refinancing your home is essentially a second mortgage, and is often referred to as such. People refinance their homes and take out second mortgages for many reasons: a lower interest rate on their home, large medical bills that need to be paid off, credit card balances, student loans and other high-interest debt. Refinancing can save hundreds of dollars a month that can be put towards other, pressing expenses. Before refinancing, it's imperative that you shop around for the best deal possible. Research the market and find out what percentage the most current interest rates are at. If they are higher than or similar to your existing interest rate, wait until the market lowers to refinance. According to most mortgage experts, the best time to refinance is when the market percentage is at least 2 or 3% below the current interest rate on your home... IRS Pushing Online Tax Filing Feb 6, 2007 - Finance News >>> Filing taxes online becoming easier - It may come as a surprise to many people, but filing U.S. federal taxes electronically with the IRS has been possible since 1986. The process has gotten much easier and much more "complete" over the years. Now when you're online you can get forms, worksheets, instructions, online calculators, request forms for old returns and even tracking info to find out the status of your refund. About 50% of all returns are now filed online. Obviously many people still prefer the old fashioned paper method. Refunds from paper returns take about three weeks to get back. It is about half that if you file online, and even less if the refund is direct deposited to a bank account or into an IRA fund. Many tax preparing firms have charged an extra fee for e-filing. But this is becoming a thing of the past. About 70 percent of taxpayers can use The IRS Free File program allows most taxpayers reporting an adjusted gross income of $52,000 or less (in 2006) to e-file without charge through one of the members of the Free File Alliance LLC. You can find links to members at the IRS Web site. Many people do not appreciate or simply do not know the advantages of e-filing. One of the most important is that errors in your return are reported immediately and a filer is able to make the changes right away. You also get immediate confirmation that the return has been received. |
