Like standard popup displays, fabric popup display are available in 8′ and 10′ widths. But you can also buy narrower ones in 4′ widths that can be used instead of banner stands. A fabric display, also known as a fabric wall, is basically a billboard-in-a-bag and is easily transported by folding it up and placing it in a lightweight carrying case. A single person can usually set up or dismantle a fabric display in less than 5 minutes.

Vinyl banners are easy to design - in spite of the fact they are very large compared to most graphic design projects you may be used to. In fact they are easier because they are so large.

Anybody with a little bit of graphic design experience can design a vinyl banner. All you need to do is be aware of your objective and follow a few simple rules.

Your objective

Remember, because vinyl banners are generally viewed from a distance you don’t want to try to do too much with your design. Usually you just want to communicate a big headline or graphic. So don’t clutter it up with all kinds of smaller text.

Some Vinyl Banner Design Rules

1. Keep your design simple and striking. The best designs contain two or three basic elements. Usually these will be a photograph, a large headline, and an “identifier” such as your company name, logo, or phone number.

2. Use bright colors. The most striking vinyl banners have lots of bright colors.

3. Make your vinyl banner readable for your target audience. If you are putting it on a building or beside a road on a fence, or on an outfield fence at a baseball or soccer field, MAKE SURE YOUR MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE IS LARGE ENOUGH TO BE READ.

4. Make sure your images have sufficient resolution.

So that takes care of the top 1/3 or so of your display. The rest should be used to illustrating your selling points. Don’t use lots of text to actually tell people about your product. If the show is busy, you will spend most of your time standing in front of your display, and your prospects won’t be able to read the text anyway.

When looking at display graphics the most critical difference is between indoor and outdoor uses. Different applications have different requirements.Indoor display graphics are most often set up in retail stores, malls, trade shows and conferences. Outdoor display graphics are things such as vinyl banners, adhesive vinyl used for vehicles or windows, signs, large outdoor posters, and street banners.

Outdoor items are exposed to the elements and they therefore require special inks in order to be waterproof and resistant to ultraviolet rays. That means it is necessary to use special solvent inks that will not fade nearly as fast in bright sunlight, and are very water resistant.

Even for indoor applications it is often smart to use solvent inks. For instance, banners that you hope to use a number of times must be rolled and unrolled, and water-based inks are much more likely to break down or scratch with this kind of handling. Or if you want to hang a vinyl banner across the front of your display table at a trade show it is likely to be bumped and have drinks spilled on it. The more accident resistant you make it, the better.
