Outdoor vs. Indoor Display Graphics
January 15, 2008 12:47 pm Trade Show GraphicsWhen looking at display graphics the most critical difference is between indoor and outdoor uses. Different applications have different requirements.Indoor display graphics are most often set up in retail stores, malls, trade shows and conferences. Outdoor display graphics are things such as vinyl banners, adhesive vinyl used for vehicles or windows, signs, large outdoor posters, and street banners.
Outdoor items are exposed to the elements and they therefore require special inks in order to be waterproof and resistant to ultraviolet rays. That means it is necessary to use special solvent inks that will not fade nearly as fast in bright sunlight, and are very water resistant.
Even for indoor applications it is often smart to use solvent inks. For instance, banners that you hope to use a number of times must be rolled and unrolled, and water-based inks are much more likely to break down or scratch with this kind of handling. Or if you want to hang a vinyl banner across the front of your display table at a trade show it is likely to be bumped and have drinks spilled on it. The more accident resistant you make it, the better.
